Officials and experts discussed biomedical product drivers

Cell technologies will become a Russian medicine innovative development priority in the next 10—15 years. There is good reason that the closing meeting in 2016 of the Presidential Council for Economic Modernization and Innovative Development was held at Russia’s major medical university, i.e. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University that has for a long time been the leading site for cell medicine and tissue engineering R&D activities. On December 20th, 2016, the Presidium headed by Premier Dmitry Medvedev, with participation of ministers, healthcare specialists, and pharma industry players, approved the roadmap for the National Technology Initiative HealthNet.

Experts hope that regulators will be wise this year

Nobody has ever said that the year 2016 was going to be easy for Russia as a whole, and for pharma industry in particular. However, when summing up the year results, experts stated that many expectations have failed to be met. It goes both about the initiatives that were welcome for the industry and those detrimental, in the opinion of most pharma industry players. Within the framework of the final in 2016 meeting of the Russian Association of Pharmaceutical Marketing, the lead experts attempted at analysis of how the current situation might affect the industry’s future development.

IT and pharma make bonds

IT mainstreaming is presently one of the key development factors for pharma that determines the industry future. However, it is premature to state that IT and pharma successfully collaborate. Dietary supplement manufacturers rush to self-management amid crackdown

In the end of 2016, a Russian Government meeting covered the issue of granting additional opportunities via voluntary certification for self-managing dietary supplement manufacturers. PharmVestnik received this information first hand from a relevant service provider. It is expected that this will allow to place additional information on the supplement package labels, which is an important competitive advantage. Amid the tightening crackdown on supplement manufacturers, the latter may find such arrangement to be a pressure breaker. However, certain market players fear that self-management will not protect against harassment by the Federal Antimonopoly Service and other regulators that may ignore the decisions of self-management organizations.

Velpharm launched a pharmaceutical factory

On December 22nd, 2016, Velpharm launched a finished drug manufacturing facility in Kurgan, which is of key importance for the entire Russian pharma industry. Transfer to goods purchasing pursuant to Federal law 44-FZ may trigger bankruptcy of state and municipal pharmacies

The year 2017 may be fatal for state and municipal pharmacies. From January 1st, they will procure products under Federal law 44-FZ. The only survivors will be those capable of changing their type of legal entity shortly. The rest enter into long-term agreements with suppliers, and forecast bankruptcy of state pharmaceutical retailers in near future.
